I just got back from an Illinois bow hunt. Attached is a picture of the buck I took. The guide there, was telling me stories of how the “other guides” felt that I was “old school” for using Muzzy ( fixed blade) broadheads. They all thought it was funny that I wasn’t using expandable's like they use! After 3 days at this outfitter, 4 bucks were shot, 1 was recovered - the one in the picture. Interestingly enough, the 3 that were not recovered were all shot with expandable's( I won’t name names, but you probably have an idea). When pictures were taken, I asked the group of guides, circling around the deer in the picture, who was “chirping” about using Muzzy broadheads, and as you might imagine nobody spoke up!
So, hunting for many years, and have transitioned through much equipment, one thing has not changed and that is my use of the 3 blade, 100 grain Muzzy broadhead. I practice with field tips for most of the summer, and the switch to Muzzy’s a month or so out from opening weekend here in Wisconsin. I don’t have to change anything on my bow, and I shoot a fast Hoyt Alphamax, so planeing is not a factor. In fact, my 13 year old son has started bow hunting this year, and you guessed it - 75 grain Muzzy 3 blade broadheads! Tried and true is how I feel, so keep making them, and thanks for listening!
