USA – Hobart, IN
For the past three years I have hunted a buck who has earned his nickname as the ghost buck. Hunting partners, residence of Stark County, Indiana and I have had glances at this buck as he appears and disappears out of nowhere. Residence of Stark County would say your hunting a ghost, he will disappear before you can get him in your sights.
I became obsessed hunting the ghost buck so I could hang him on my wall. For three years every Halloween I saw just enough of him in the distance to know he was still around. During the rest of deer season there was no sign of him.
On October 31, 2009 we would meet again. As I stood patiently in my deer stand with no signs of deer around I began to hit my buck roar and smack my rattle bag against the tree. As I waited destiny would bring us twenty yards apart an hour before dark on the first day of the hunters moon.
I spotted him coming toward me from behind the tree, as I pulled back my faithful Mathews Bow and released my deadly muzzy broad head the ghost buck I had hunted for so long became a ghost no more. As he lay lifeless in front of my deer stand I was waiting for him to disappear like he always had in the past. The flashing of my G-Force nock was proof he was not disappearing .
He was 21 points with huge mass all over his rack. He dressed out at 216lb’s and scored Typical 187 7/8 net P&Y. My obsession with bow hunting is even greater than ever.
A shout out to my father for bestowing in me the patience and determination to hunt this magnificent animal. Also cant forget the hunting partners thanks guys not in any order Dan Duran , Bubba, Zac, Phil, Mike, Laithen, DJ, Darrell, Turf, Jay, Rob, Chuck, Cam ,Kirby.
