USA – Mammoth Cave, KY
I got early season pictures of this Kentucky buck in velvet and continued getting pictures throughout the season. He would leave our Kentucky farm for as much as 2 weeks at a time but he kept coming back. I had passed several times on other nice bucks but this split G2 buck was what I wanted to take with my new Mathew’s Monster, Easton arrow and 100 grain Muzzy.
Two of my fishing buddies had already taken deer that were over 160 inches each (both velvet deer). They were in the club house after the first weekend of the season. I had already been told that I would be cleaning all the fish this year and that was if they even let me fish with them. The sad part is that they were planning on using my boat and leaving me at home.
The rut went by and the split G2 buck was missing in action. I did not get a single picture of him during the middle of November. I had fears that he had cross paths with a gun hunter. Then he returned the last week of November. As December ended he had gotten in to a feeding pattern. Our paths finally crossed on New Year’s Eve. My 100 grain Muzzy made up for a not so well placed shot.
Oddly enough this 150 inch deer puts me in last place in our fishing boat’s big buck contest – hard to believe. At least I won’t be watching my (so called) pals head out fishing in my boat without me! I will be buy breakfast on our first trip.
